The same evening examined North & made some [...]ful digging [...] [...] presumed search near shore north of North Church & found skeleton of small horse with fragments of sheets of oak coated with iron studded with nails with large heads & rivetted on other side. Some of the nails & rivets seemed to have been [...] See p. 64. Left in the evening for Papa Westray & went down to Chapel of St Tredwell same evening. On Friday morning at 9 [...] went to North Hill & dug up a round Tumulus but found only [...] in large quantities. Started for Sanday at 2 P.M. and got between Red [...] at 3 P.M. landed Mr. F. at Stove Bay at 4 and anchored in Kettletoft Bay at 5 P.M. After getting luggage to Ca[...] went to Mr [...]s. After tea there he went with me to Garamount. The same evening examined North Links & made some unsuccessful digging  Next morning resumed search near shore north of North Church & found skeleton of small horse with fragments of sheets of [oak] coated with iron studded with nails with large heads & rivetted on other side.  Some of the nails & rivets seemed to have been bronzed ^See p64.  Left in the evening for Papa Westray & went down to Chapel of St Tradewell [Tredwell] same evening.
