The sockets of the spearheads protruded from the vertical face of an old peat cutting in a low-lying peat moss close to the sea. The find was reported by Mrs Isa McKillop of Carinish School to Mr Ian Crawford, then excavating in North Vist, who visited the site on 14 & 16 June. The site was subsequently visited by Dr Close-Brooks, who on sifting through the soil left by the earlier diggers recovered the top of spearhead (2).
