After the spearhead and the two swords were found, the news was communicated to the Museum and Art Gallery, Dundee. The area around the original findspot was excavated by Museum staff, resulting in the discovery of three loose rivets belonging to sword (2). During conservation work, fragments of the scabbard of sword (2) were found on the blade (4) This had been made in three layers - hide-wood-hide.
