Cists 1, 2 and 3 were demolished by the workmen and their contents carried away before the fact of these discoveries came to the knowledge of the Contractor. Subsequently an Urn (4) and a flint arrowhead (5) were brought back with the statement that they were found in Cist 3. A close watch was then kept and two further cists were uncovered. Cist 4 contained a crouched inhumation accompanied by a Food Vessel (6). In Cist 5 there were no remains. In a nearby cairn a long cist was uncovered containing a disturbed inhumation and two sherds of pottery (7). In addition to these finds a dagger (1) deposited on loan to the Museum of the Albert Institute in 1886, was said to have been found in one of the cists but which one cannot now be ascertained. In 1886 a workman removing gravel from the cairn uncovered another long cist. In order to remove the capstone the workmen broke it, one of the pieces of stone falling into the cist and crushing the skeletal remains which were found only as dust and skull fragments. With this ? inhumation a knife-dagger (2) and two discs of sheet gold (3) were found. The cairn was subsequently cleared under the direction of Mr Hutcheson.
