It lay on the crest of Shave Hill, about 2 miles west of Crewkerne in a wood that now belongs to Imperial Chemical Industries. The barrow had been used for years as a quarry for sand and broken chert for use as road metal. The Farm manager decided to use what remained of the mound to repair tracks from field-gates all over the estate.
