The spot had been grassland from \"time out of mind\" and the hoard was deposited at a depth of 3 1/2 ft from the surface, lying \"all of a heap\". Reference (a) stated that the hoard comprised sixteen socketed axes, one palstave, four spearheads, six sword fragments, a quadrangular tube fragment a ferrule, a circular ornament and a tanged knife. Ten socketed axes or axe fragments (1-10) now survive, also a palstave (11) nine spearhead fragments (12-14) and (18-23), a rectangular socketed object (15) a hollow ring (16) and a ferrule (17). If the original account was correct, six socketed axes (24) are lost.
