Smith was informed by Lt-Col. Richard Taylor of Chipchase Castle, that a plough had displaced a large stone on Reaverhill Farm, beneath which were bones and a Bronze dagger (1). Reference (a) records the excavation of the site, when it was established that the stone displaced by the plough was the cornerstone of a cist which had been constructed in a shallow pit. There were indications that the cist had originally been covered by a mound or cairn, substancially ploughed away during the deep ploughing of the field. The contents of the cist had previously been disturbed.
