It is reported by (a) that the workman brought him five bronze implements (not specified) and a day or two later he brought three more (not specified), saying that they had all been found together in what appeared to be a hole made for the purpose. Mr Darwin afterwards visited the spot and the workman shewed him the exact position in which the implements had been discovered. The workman described a 9th implement he had found with the others - a weapon about 9 ft long with rivet-holes at one end, which crumbled to pieces as he was getting it out.
