Mathias and a party of friends. Shortly after commencing their investigations the cover-stone of a cist was exposed. In september 1927 Sir Cyril Fox & Prof. W.F. Grimes took over. The coverstone of the cist occupied the floor of a pit sunk onto the ground under the centre of the cairn. [Coverstone 9' 7\" x 3' x 10 1/2\" deep : cist, of megalithic ancestry measured 6' x 2 1/2' x 2 1/2' deep].
