Cunnington in Sept 1882 by means of a central shaft. Primary interment not found but probably lay beneath the incompletely explored cairn. This cairn was 8ft in diameter, 9\" to a foot in thickness and lay 7ft to 8ft below the top of the barrow. On the S. side of the cairn, lying on top of the flints was the dagger (1) also a small bronze ring for attachment (2). On top of the cairn was the sheet-gold plaque (3) and near it, the shale macehead (4). Scattered among the flints of the cairn and spread over an area of 2 feet were the fragments of an amber cup (5). Below the cairn fragments of an incense cup (6) were found. A foot above the cairn a crushed urn (7) was found, lying upon a thin stratum of ashes.
