(A group of four huts are associated with the field system, in one field of which the palstave lay.) In September 1965 Mr W.J. Hopkins, a \"small-scale revisor\" of the Ordnance Survey, plotted the new track and noticed the palstave in the loose soil churned up by the bulldozer. A survey of the relevant group of huts and adjoining fields was subsequently undertaken which showed that some 15 surviving fields should be attributed to the settlement, making a holding of 7.6 acres.
