Bateman on 2 June 1845, is situated about halfway between Alsop Moor and Dovedale. In a rock cut pit below the centre of the barrow a crouched inhumation of a middle sized man lay at the western end of the pit. Near the skull a \"fine bronze celt\" (1) was found and the lower jaw of a pig (2) was also found near the skeleton. At the other end of the pit was a disturbed inhumation and a few burnt bones.
