Bateman on 21 May 1845. The central burial, that of a crouched male inhumation was found with the dagger (1) at his elbow, and a few inches lower down, a stone battle-axe (2). Near the head was a piece of flint (3). In the body of the mound 80 quartz pebbles (4) were found, several flint implements, including a barbed and tanged arrowhead (5) and a few sherds of a coarse urn (4).
