Bateman on 21 June and 2 August 1843 ; and re-opened 13 July 1848, when in a pit cut six feet into the rock under the centre of the barrow a crouched inhumation was found with a bronze dagger (1) and a flint knife (2). In 1843, on the south side of the barrow, 6 ft from the S. verge the inhumation of a young person was found and nearby a cremation, both unaccompanied. On the north side of the barrow a few human bones and teeth were found in the body of the mound.
