Bateman on 1 April 1847 and investigated further on 23rd August 1847. The mound was found to cover two pits cut into rock to a depth of 4 ft. One pit contained a crouched inhumation lying on the left side. Near the hips a flint implement (2) was found, and a bronze awl (1).
