On removing a large stone which stood inside the walls of the building they discovered pieces of a composition supposed to be very fine brass, nearly in the shape of a horseshoe .... The whole of the rubbish not being removed it is expected that other discoveries may be made\". Later references report that the structure being demolished was in fact a tumulus ; that the two horseshoe shaped pieces of very fine brass were two massive penannular armlets of bronze (1-2) and that the grave group also included an agate bead (3), and a flat, perforated stone disc (4).
