A bowl-shaped hollow, 9ft in diameter and 3ft deep in the centre, had been scooped out of the summit of the mound, possibly disturbing a cremation in an urn, as four more fragments of coarse pottery (3) were found in the hollow, all belonging to the same vessel as (2). The hollow was riddled with rabbit holes and it was thought that the hole had been made in digging out ferrets. A few animal bones and part of a skull (species not determined) were found in the hollow A cremation with a flint flake (4) were found in a crushed urn (5) 3 1/2 ft below the junction of the lower stratum with the upper. Above this, at a depth of 1 ft in the lower stratum a simple cremation was found in an oval hollow, unaccompanied.
