Neville in 1848. (One of three in Charterhouse Plantation, on the east side of the London-Newmarket road). Two basin-shaped hollows, each about 3ft in circumference & 20\" deep, had been scooped out of the solid chalk beneath the barrow. In the centre of each hollow a large cinerary urn (2-3) was found, inverted over cremations. In one case the bones and ashes under the urn had been wrapped in coarse cloth - a fragment was preserved and a small \"rude bronze pin\" (? awl) (1) \"evidently used to fasten the shroud\", was found lying in the ashes.
