Our supporters come from all sides of the political spectrum and we are represented through supportive MSPs and MPs at Holyrood and Westminster.\r\n\r\nWhy should an independent Scotland elect its own head of state?\r\n\r\n- No newly independent country in recent times has retained or reinstated a monarchy.    \r\n- If the Scottish people are to be trusted to vote on independence, they should also be trusted to vote for their head of state,\r\n- If the monarchy is retained after independence, we will effectively have a foreign head of state who's primary interests will lie outside Scotland.\r\n- Hereditary monarchy goes against every democratic principle and has no place in the 21st century.\r\n- Scotland has a long history of popular sovereignty.
