We're at a crucial point in our nation's history, and it's important that the full tange of possibilities for Scotland's working class and other disempowered communities are given prominence and energy. This conference is that place. It could really change things.\"\r\nAlan Bissett, author & playwright\r\n\r\n\"The Radical Independence Conference gives trade union members a chance to debate and discuss how we can build an independent Scotland that puts workers first\"\r\nSarah Collins, Chair, STUC Youth Committee\r\n\r\n\"Last year RIC established its place in politics in Glasgow, and one year on, the movement is nationwide. The biggest challenges this year are to engage with voters from Shetland to the Borders, especially those who do not vote or are not registered to vote. I believe that the radical message passionately delivered by Radical Independence will by key to empowering those in Scotland who feel disenchanted or powerless by politics as usual.\"\r\nJean Urquhart, Independent MSP\r\n\r\n\"Around the world all countries are facing unprecedented social, economic and ecological challenges. Scotland has the opportunity next year not just to wave flags and talk about national identity, but to accept responsibility for these challenges and take our society and our economy in a new direction. The Radical Independence Campaign has the chance to connect with people by articulating the need for that transformational change, and how it will benefit people across Scotland.\"\r\nPatrick Harvie MSP, Scottish Green Party\r\n\r\n\"The Radical Independece Conference is an important event and will play a vital part in shaping a fairer independent Scotland.\"\r\nStuart Braithwaite, Mogwai\r\n\r\n\"Most of the Left in Scotland are now pro-independence and have increasing confidence and ambition. Last year's RIC was an important contribution to this. This year's conference will give us the vision and political energy to take back into our local communities.\"\r\nIsobel Lindsay, Scottish CND\r\n\r\n\"We want to get as many women as men to the conference this year. Our job is to get women to see that their best chance is with a Scottish Government - they need good public services and fair benefits and they're not going to get that with British Governments whether Tory or New Labour.\"\r\nShona McAlpine, Women for Independence\r\n\r\n\"The serious challenges Scotland faces on wealth and gender inequality require radical solutions and only independence opens up the opportunity to make these a reality. Last year's conference was energising and exciting and I urge those who share my vision of a transformed society to come along and be a part of this movement.\"\r\nAlison Johnstone, Green MSP\r\n\r\n\"Best wishes to the Radical Independence Conference 2013. We are life long supporters of Scottish independence, who want to see an independent nation, where the resources are used to benefit of all people, not just big business.\"\r\nCraig & Charlie Reid, The Proclaimers\r\n\r\n\"The Radical Independence Conference is now a movement - an essential part of the wider movement for self-determination and democracy in Scotland. Last year was an essential milestone in the movement's development and this year it will be another, this is a coming together of all the forces who want to transform Scottish society and politics.\"\r\nMike Small, Bella Caledonia\r\n\r\n\"Politics is about priorities and it's evident the Scottish and UK Parliaments have different priorities. I would like to see Scotland add a radical edge to its social democratic consensus, end private profit from public subsidy and use the economic, and fiscal powers of independence to redue housing, health, wealth and fuel inequalities by progressive taxation. It's all to play for so let's get out there and campaign for real social justice in an independent, nuclear-free Scottish republic.\"\r\nJohn Finnie, Independent MSP\r\n\r\nCONFERENCE 2013\r\n\r\nLast November RIC burst on to the political scene when over 800 people attended our launch conference. Over several sessions and workshops, we heard from over 50 speakers from across the progressive spectrum and around the world, and debated key issues ranging for the environment to austerity and war. In the last year, groups have been set up all over Scotland that have held an array of meetings, events and initiatives.\r\n\r\nThis year, RIC 2013 will look to put a radical agenda at the heart of a new Scotland. It will be an inspirational and educational platform to launch ourselves into referendum year, with a vision for transforming Scotland and a strategy to help win the Yes vote in 2014.\r\n\r\nCheck our website for announcements on speakers and workshops. Make sure you are there, on what will be another important and historic stepping stone not only towards independence, but to a society where people, the environment and peace come before profit. We will be joined by international delegations, and by communities, campaigns and trade unions.
