Die-matching the Durotriges 3

On the left of your screen are 6 coin sides made from six different dies. On the right of your screen is a coin outlined in green.

1. Match the right side of the coin in green to one of the 6 coin sides on the left.
1. If it matches, select that die from the dropdown.
2. If it doesn't match, select 'No match'.
3. If the image is too blurry to be able to tell, select 'Too blurry'.
2. How confident are you about your choice? Select from the dropdown: High, Medium, Low.
3. Add any extra comments you have in the free text box.

Helpful Hints:

• Iron age coins are always smaller than the engraved area of the die that struck them. No two coins will be exactly alike, because they take their impression from different parts of the die surface.
• Dies wear out over time, creating imperfections on the coins struck later in the die’s life. These flaws often look like extra lines or blobs on the coins. Wear on the die can also make details on the coin less precise: pellets (little dots) become larger and lines become thicker.
• The coin outlined in green may not be orientated the same as the 6 coins on the left. Rotating the coin image using the green slider provided may make it easier to match.
• Often there are two or more dies which at first glance appear similar.

• If the patterns on two coin sides look similar, look for detail within the pattern to make sure they align the same way (see example below).
